I had the same problems again and again and again. The anwer, which is only part way there is burried deep in the docs someplace where you wouldn't thing to find it. 1. SC really needs to be on the system disk so that the preferenced can be saved, otherwise i always reverts back to the built-in sound. 2. make sure that you point your mac away from digidesign in the sound control panel. leave it on built in. ASIO takes it from there. If you are on digidesign in your sound control panel and launch any app that uses ASIO it freaks out when it tries to grab hold of you card. On my G3 at work this means a restart. On my old powercomputing clone i have to re-install protools everytime i make this deadly mistake. Anyone else notice how noisy ASIO is, compared to uing DAE? At least on an AMIII card anyway. Though i am thankful that ASIO lets me use 24-bit files as digi does not. hope that this helps and that i didn't misunderstand your question. best, kevin parks seoul, korea kevin@raven.dartmouth.edu - -- On Wed, 27 Dec 2000 21:18:34 Paul Lansky wrote: >Hi >I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, >but I guess I wasn't paying attention... > >I'm running 2.2.10 on a system with dididesign hardware, >which works fine with pro tools, logic audio, etc. > >I got the driver from steinberg (the address in the README >has changed) and installed it in the ASIO Drivers folder. > >But SC doesn't see it. Hi Paul, Did you check the digi site for a new digi system init? I have had remarkably horrible experiences trying to get different vintages of Digidesign gear to work with ASIO. It appears that certain vintages of their drivers work with certain vintages of their gear. Working out the appropriate combination can be tedious. (This is OK for wine, but for hardware?) One way to test this is to see if the ASIO driver works with some other application, like Bias Peak. I'm playing around with the multichannel examples and have the left/right pan controlled by MouseX and front/back pan controled by MouseY. I want the overall output level to be full at the center of the screen and to fall with distance from the center, but ATM I'm struggling with the distance. I can work out the square of the distance OK (pythagoras helped!) but I can't figure out how to find the square root. thanks in advance Paul ------------------------------ End of sc-users-digest V1 #219 ******************************
