With regard to ugen counts, I have found something rather odd. The patch, which allows you to bench mark ugens, allows the same number of ugens on my g3 pb300 and my g4 400. Oddly enough though, when I hit the limit on the pb, I crash, while on the g4 hitting that same number of ugens only degrades performance (clicks and cuts, pauses etc) and does not make me crash. By the by, to clarify, I consider the ugen limit to be 98-100 % cpu usage rather than a more sensable performance hit. just my $0.02 Thus spake michael whyte, in the year of our L*rd Tue, Sep 25, 2001 at 03:03:19PM -0700: > > p.s. i can give a ugen count if you want. > - -- '.QBkU.V3jOk''''''''''wv5b9iRxcVq.Plr.dJ yLMKtStIn'D2ygl,'''''''' ''e..4dTRe4c.''''''''cP6M3nu,''NSrP57.fw 2.yF9O7F".gD0DeQ.4`''''' '''''''."W.`WI ,.'Jz4QS3Y7,'''' 'fbPg83R LS.Z4JV, 7SWS9Tz''' '''''''''L.z GrTn....wQu.'''''' As I say, I am just going back to the basics... starting at the top of the examples file. Once SC is running (started via OSC) I get the open transport error. If I stop SC manually, then I am in business again -- OSC messages are received without error. It seems that when SC is running it stops listening for further OSC messages. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? I have now tried all this on a second, very different machine, using both SC2.2.7 and 2.2.11, with same result. > > OSC can be tricky business. i have been using it between max/sc for > a while and once you get it down it seems to be pretty solid. don't > give up.
