Also, the reason why I'm not happy with TSpawn is that when the envelopes overlap the overall volume is increased (because there is more than 1 oscillator): ( // Tspawn example, amplitude changes, try different frequencies (MouseY) { TSpawn.ar( { e = Env.perc(0.001, 0.1, 1, -4); SinOsc.ar(MouseY.kr(50, 5000, 'exponential'), 0, 0.1)*EnvGen.ar(e) }, 1, nil, Impulse.ar(Line.kr(1, 200, 10)); // trigger in accelerando ) }.scope ) on the other hand in the single Synth example I have only one oscillator even if the envelopes overlap, and the volume is not changed. ( // Synth example, amplitude doesn't change, try different frequencies (MouseY) { e = Env.perc(0.001, 0.1, 1, -4); SinOsc.ar(MouseY.kr(50, 5000, 'exponential'), 0, 0.1) * EnvGen.ar(e, gate:LFPulse.ar(Line.kr(1, 200, 10)) ) // accelerando }.scope ) and compare the CPU usage! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 08:38:20 +0000 From: Jem Finer <---@---.---> Subject: motu 828 blowup Don't know where this stands in the USB/firewire audio story . . . Dealers have been taking orders for months, as it was originally promised for July, but... RME co-founder Matthias Carstens posted to their newsgroup on 9/22/01 saying that he had a prototype he was willing to freeze for a production run, and that all the ducks were lined up for smooth and speedy manufacture, but... It's a wonderful design on paper. Their Hammerfall PCI card is truly fine, though it took a second hardware rev to reach that level. Their tech support is unparalleled, though highly Windows-centric (and mum on OS X driver delivery). I'd say that RME's odds of getting a new product mostly right on the first try are greater than MOTU's, and certainly better than vapor-vendors such as Metric Halo (MobileI/O?) and Event (EZbus?). If you need something that works today, though, it sounds as if the best prospects are the Emagic USB unit for laptops and the M-Audio Delta 1010 (with OS X drivers!) for desktops (I have no personal experience with either). - --Geoff RME Hammerfall owner since 4/00 URL for RME newsgroup: http://www.rme-audio.com/english/info/newsgrp.htm >Ouch. I borrowed a U2A from Egosys USB-Audio box from a colleague, and I can only warn you from buying it, it simply doesn't work properly (constant clicking on sound in, unreliable integration with the MacOS and non-working ASIO drivers, even in the new software they published in September) They claim you can just plug and play, but what you get is plug, wonder why it doesn't work the way it should, and crash. If you already own a multi-channel A/D-ADAT- D/A box (such as the Alesis AI-3), this could be a viable "buy today" option. Feedback in the RME newsgroup indicates some unresolved problems with PowerBooks, which RME has pledged to track down. If you want an RME interface with 8 channels of 24/96 as well as one pair of ADAT and MIDI (though no mic preamps), which must be connected either to an RME HDSP CardBus or PCI computer interface, the Multiface is your beast. As of last night, RME had not yet produced any for public consumption. - --Geoff >My dealer told me RME shipped a first load of Multifaces in August, but >nothing happend since. >I'm waiting for it in quiet desperation :) >The MOTU 828 has one big advantage compared to the RME Cardbus/Multiface >solution, next to its availability: two Mic-Preamps with phantom-power and >XLR connectors. >But the rest of the technical specs is better on the RME. > >I borrowed a U2A from Egosys USB-Audio box from a colleague, and I can only >warn you from buying it, it simply doesn't work properly (constant clicking >on sound in, unreliable integration with the MacOS and non-working ASIO >drivers, even in the new software they published in September) >They claim you can just plug and play, but what you get is plug, wonder why >it doesn't work the way it should, and crash. > >Does anyone have this thing actually working? > >Greetings, > > >jo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 10:35:00 -0700 (PDT) From: Adam Mokan <---@---.---> Subject: Checkbox view question I am setting up a GUI with 16 checkboxes...
